MTG Star Trek arrives November 13 with four Commander decks and signed Headliner cards
Prereleases run November 6 to 12. Picard, Spock, Worf and the Borg Queen lead the Commander decks, and Collector Boosters can hold cards signed by Star Trek actors.

MTG Star Trek, the Magic: The Gathering crossover with the whole Star Trek franchise, releases on November 13, 2026. Prerelease events run from November 6 to November 12, a week before the cards hit shelves, and the set lands in Star Trek's 60th anniversary year.
It is a Universes Beyond set, and cards from the main set are legal in Standard. The four Commander decks add their own run of Commander-only cards, and those are not Standard legal.
What is in an MTG Star Trek Prerelease Pack
Each Prerelease Pack holds six Play Boosters, one traditional foil promo, a deck box and a spindown die. You build a 40-card deck from what you open, plus as many basic lands as you want.
Wizards of the Coast keeps its own advice short: play two colors, include at least five removal spells and run 17 lands. Artifacts show up far more often than in a normal set, so anything that destroys an artifact is worth a slot. If you want to practice sealed deck building before the weekend, older Magic prerelease packs play exactly the same way.
New mechanics and draft themes
Spacecraft are artifacts that take a turn or two to come online, and your creatures "station" them to get them running. Klingon Warrior tokens arrive with haste and can be sacrificed, while the Borg reward you for filling the board with artifact creatures.
The new "strange new worlds" ability word counts how many differently named lands you control, which is why Planet and Anomaly lands matter here. Blue and black also lean on modal spells built around a moral dilemma, where you pick one of two outcomes.
Every two-color pair gets two signpost uncommons that point to its draft theme:
- White and blue: Spacecraft and artificers
- Blue and black: dilemma control
- Black and red: Klingons and death triggers
- Red and green: away team landfall
- Green and white: doctors and +1/+1 counters
- White and black: Borg artifact creatures
- Blue and red: scientists and noncreature spells
- Black and green: archaeology from the graveyard
- Red and white: command with 8 or more total power
- Green and blue: strange new worlds
The four MTG Star Trek Commander decks
Each deck is themed on a crew, fleet or army, and each one comes with an alternate commander if you want to play it another way.
- Federation Fleet (white, blue, red): Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary powers up your creatures and charges your Spacecraft. Captain Janeway, Endgame takes a faster route with Officer tokens.
- Landing Party (green, white, blue): Commander Spock draws cards and casts spells for free based on how many differently named lands you control. Captain Kirk, Boldly Going leans on the Starship Enterprise instead.
- Klingon Fury (red, white, black): Worf, Defiant Commander uses the new battlefront ability word to keep cards flowing. Kor, Cause of Vengeance sacrifices creatures to push Klingons and Warriors harder.
- We Are the Borg (white, blue, black): The Borg Queen boosts artifact creatures and turns creatures from your opponents' graveyards into Borg. Locutus of Borg grows the collective even faster.
A standard deck has 100 cards, with a traditional foil borderless face commander, 32 cards that are new to Magic, 10 double-sided tokens and a deck box. Collector's Edition versions put every card in surge foil. Retailers list the standard decks at $74.99 each.
The reprints are strong too. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Swords to Plowshares, Skullclamp, Toxic Deluge and Vindicate all appear across the four lists, which makes these decks an easy way to upgrade older Magic Commander decks you already own.
Collector Boosters and signed Headliner cards
Collector Boosters carry rares, traditional foils and a full-art land, plus a chance at a Headliner card signed by a Star Trek actor. The signed cards are printed in English only, but they can turn up in Collector Boosters of any language.
Two Scene Boxes each hold six borderless cards that join into one picture. Divergent Timeline features James T. Kirk, and Enterprise-Q features Q. There is also a Beam Me Up Bundle with ship schematics, full-art Away Team lands, Play Boosters and a Collector Booster.
Before and after the release
The set follows MTG Reality Fracture, which closed out Magic's current story in October. Casual Commander runs all day on Sundays at our weekly card game events in Irving Park, so it is a good place to try one of the new decks once you have it.
November 13 is a busy day for card games. Yu-Gi-Oh! Magnificent Maestros launches the same day, so ask the store about preorders and prerelease seats before the weekend.
